The New African
After
the fifth Pan-African Congress, which took place in Manchester,
England, in October 1945, a group of West African nationalists founded
the West African National Secretariat, based in London. Kwame Nkrumah
was its secretary-general. The secretariat's objective was to make plans
for a federation of independent states. In March 1946, the group
launched its journal, The New African. Due to lack of funds, only a few
issues ever appeared.
